April Fruit of the Spirit: PEACE

April Scripture Memory Verse:

“Lord, you establish peace for us; all that we have accomplished you have done for us.” Isaiah 26:12

This month we will be thinking about and studying the Fruit of Peace! And what perfect timing to talk about peace than during Holy Week? The death, burial, and resurrection story is the ultimate story of how God sent His Son to bring peace to the earth. Throughout the month of April, look for ways to talk about God’s peace with your family. For little ones, we can help to identify things that are scary for them. We can use these moments of being scared to ask God to bring peace to our hearts. The story of Daniel in the lion’s den is a great example of how God gave Daniel unexplainable peace in a time of serious fear.

Focus Bible Story: Daniel and the Lions

Scripture: Daniel 6:1-23

Questions to talk about with your child:

  1. Why did the Magi tell the king to make a new law?
  2. How did Daniel show that he was focused on God in this story?
  3. What did the Magi do when they saw Daniel praying?
  4. Did the king want to throw Daniel into the den on lions?
  5. Do you think Daniel had peace inside the lion’s den?

Psalm 119 and King David Psalm 119

The Resurrection Story Matthew 28, Mark 16, Luke 24, John 20

March Fruit of the Spirit: JOY

March Scripture Memory Verse:

“This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24

This month we will be thinking about and studying the Fruit of Joy! My hope is that we can help our children really seek out and express joy in all things. Sometimes finding joy in all circumstances is really hard. But remember, joy is different than happiness. Deep Godly joy comes from the Holy Spirit. We can experience joy in hard things as Christians only because God gives us that ability. As parents we can model this for our children in many ways. We can show and verbalize disappointment but still show joy through gratitude. We can pray with our children to experience joy in different situations. We can seek out ways to share joy with others and include our children in those activities.

Focus Bible Story: Paul and Silas in Prison

Scripture: Acts 16:16-40

Questions to talk about with your child:

  1. How were Paul and Silas punished for helping the slave girl?
  2. What did Paul and Silas do while they were in prison?
  3. How did the jailer take care of Paul and Silas?
  4. Why do you think the jailer repented?
  5. What examples of joy can you find in this story?

February Fruit of the Spirit: LOVE

February Scripture Memory Verse:

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and all your mind, and love your neighbor as yourself.” Luke 10:27

Each month, there will be a “Focus Bible Story” to read with your family. I will include the scripture and some questions that may be helpful to ask.  I will also include other stories from scripture that display the Fruit of the Spirit for that month. (Although, I bet we could find God’s love in every part of scripture!) Use this month’s theme to focus your bible reading with your kids. Be on the hunt in other stories or in everyday life, looking for proof of God’s love. If you have babies or toddlers at home, use the words “God’s Love” as you go about your day. This will start to plant God’s word and goodness in their hearts – and, as a bonus, will also help YOU as a parent as you are continually learning to walk in the Spirit too!

Focus Bible Story: The Parable of the Good Samaritan

Scripture: Luke 10:25-37

Questions to talk about with your child:

  1. Who are the people in the story?
  2. Describe the Samaritan.
  3. Why do you think the priest and the Levite walked past the injured traveler?
  4. How did the Samaritan show love to the injured traveler?
  5. What does this story teach us about God’s love?

50 Scripture Songs for PreSchoolers from Lifeway Worship Resources

Here are some tips to using The Gospel Project Curriculum at home!

  1. Watch the age appropriate video with your family by using the links above.
  2. Each age level explores the same Bible story each week. (A little hint: the Upper Elementary Activity Sheet gives a great summary of the weekly scripture!)
  3. Print the activity sheets and work on them together or independently.
  4. Feel free to use these activities at any point during the week. Consider adding a “Bible Time” to your school day. The activities are updated every Thursday.
  5. Bonus! Make a weekly prayer schedule with your family. For example: On Mondays pray for medical professionals. Tuesdays pray for grandparents. Wednesdays pray for our nations leaders and military. Etc. Make it personal for your family.
  6. A prayer jar is great for little kids or big kids! Write names of friends and family members on popsicle sticks and put them into a jar. During a meal time, have each family member choose a stick and pray for that person that day!
